Giovanni Barone

Giovanni Barone's passion for farming originates from a family history in the heart of the Vercelli Granges, the ancient plain between Vercelli and the Po, extending around Trino Vercellese and Crescentino. In the early 1900s, his grandparents were rice farmers, managing the Cascinetta Rosa in Sali Vercellese. By the time Giovanni was born, his parents had already moved to Ronsecco, first to the hamlet of Lachelle di Ronsecco and later to Cascina Malfatta. His father began working the fields during a historical period marked by the difficult years of the post-World War II era, and Giovanni assisted him from a very young age. This period saw the transition from the era of "mondine" (female rice weeders) to mechanization, an agricultural revolution that would bring innovation to cultivation techniques, always with respect for traditions and the environment. The leap in quality of rice cultivation opened doors to globalized markets, and Giovanni began to dedicate himself to the commercial sector of the farm, attending rice commodity exchanges and specializing in paddy rice brokerage services, a path that his son Andrea and his wife Laura, also brokerage agents, would follow. Today, Giovanni manages Cascina Sandra in Desana with his wife Francesca, dedicating himself with his usual passion to the family farming business.
